Abstract :
Freud emphasizes the importance of the libidinal bond, the establishment of ties of sentiment between members of a group – whether by attachment to a love object (not necessarily with a sexual goal) or by identification – in order to generate a community bond, which can provide a solid foundation for the edifice of human society. But the creation of ties of sentiment can also be a means of perverting the speech that brings truth and life. This can happen when such ties are hijacked by sectarian discourse, which is well acquainted with and knows how to utilize this mechanism of mass psychology, of the “group mind”.
